Kaplan

Two years in Grenada.  That's a long time.  When I first came, I never that the time would come when I would be done with my first two years of medical school and be preparing for both going home permanently and the USMLE.

Though classes are over and I have successfully completed each one, I have taken the opportunity to stay in Grenada for a few more weeks for a Kaplan review course.  I want to go home really, really badly, but I'm glad that I stayed.  I know that I would have been able to review by myself nearly as well as Kaplan is helping me to.  It's a rough "retreat", but worth the time and money.  We spend eight hours each day in lecture (with one day "off" to study when we have completed a topic, like anatomy).  We just finished going through the immunology/microbiology section and tomorrow is our study break.  I'm so glad.  I haven't checked, but I'm rather sure that this is the largest section in the retreat.  It's so easy to forget home much there is to microbiology.

I have another five weeks and then I will actually be flying home.  I'm looking forward to that ever so much.

I saw this on YouTube this morning.  I really liked it.  I'm not certain, but I am quite positive that the four girls are the very same who dance for kyarii pamyu pamyu.  I thought it was fun and really cute; I hope you think so too.

Valentine's Day

Did you have a good Valentine's Day?  I hope so.  With all of the troubles that life brings, it is so important to take time out of your day to tell those close to you that you love them.  Nothing can be so important that it takes the place of your loved ones in your heart--if something does, then it is time to re-evaluate your life.

I can't imagine life without my loved ones.  It would be a very sad life, I know that much.  Life comes pretty close to unlivable when you're alone.  Don't restrict yourself to living just inside yourself--that's not really living at all.  Live by sharing your life with those around you, those close to you, those whom you can't live without.  Learn to think about them first and you'll find that you're happier moment to moment.

I started this as an invitation to enjoy Valentine's Day, but I think I ended up talking to myself.  Would you join me just the same?  Would you join me in living Valentine's Day everyday?

Christmas Walk at the Grande

One day during Christmas break, we all went to the Grande Floridian for a walk and a quick trip to the gingerbread house before it closed.  Beforehand, we had a really tasty breakfast at the Kona Cafe in the Polynesian.  This was such a fun morning.  We actually do have more pictures, but we took them on my sister's new camera.  I'll have to see if I can get ahold of some of them.

It wasn't hot out, just comfortable for walking around and relaxing.  Disney World is such a great place to walk around.  Whether or not you're staying at the hotels, everyone is always a guest and encouraged to have a good time.  We did just that.

Merry Christmas from the Grande Floridian

Playstation Vita

According to Andriasang, some new numbers have been released regarding the sales of the Vita.  The numbers have been underwhelming.  Especially considering that the PSP rules in Japan.  I realize that a lot of people were expecting more support in Japan, but when you consider the 3DS release just earlier this year and the release of major titles (such as Final Fantasy XIII:  Type 0 and loads of Japanese games that I am not even aware of) on the system that everybody already owns (the PSP), it is not a surprise that more people didn't give in to another large purchase.  After all, though the system is quite pricey by itself (the 3G/WiFi model being about $390) you can't just stop there, you need to buy a memory card and a game (even if you buy the game online as it seems a lot of people did).  I realize it's Christmas, and I realize that in Japan, sales go up at Christmas time just like they do in the states (that is my understanding anyway), but people only have so much money to spend.  I think that everyone is also forgetting that it was really not so long ago that the tsunami hit Japan.

Personally, I didn't expect sales to be huge in Japan because of the tsunami, the lack of Japanese gamer interest as per a Sony pole pre-launch (sorry I don't remember where I found that article, it's somewhere on IGN), the release of the 3DS earlier this year, and the release of major PSP titles both now and later this year.  This seems to me like a case of too much to buy and too little money.  Still I don't think that the Vita sales numbers are really that bad considering (the things previously mentioned).  Sony products don't often start with a bang these days, but they do seem to pick up steam.  Once the Vita is released in the US and Europe, I think things will really start to pick up (after all, the US and Europe don't see MOST of the great games that come to the PSP).  The Vita is promising great games to both the US and Japan.  I am still a firm believer that an open market via the PSN for ALL games is the best way to go.  Not translated--doens't matter!!!  There's still a huge population of Japanese speaking people in the US and many more a trying to learn (like myself).

Instead of letting the current numbers rule future sales, I think we all need to look at what we personally want in a system.  If you have been excited for the Vita--get it.  If you haven't--don't.  The Vita is a will be a solid system--I am confident in about that, but I won't be purchasing one at US launch either.  I don't have the time OR the money, but I do plan to get one later next year (2012)!

Here's to new stuff, hahaha!

Packing day

It has been such a long term. I had wanted to post more over the past several weeks, but there has been so much to study. Classes are finally over though and packing day is here! Well, I may be jumping the just a bit: I don't actually leave until Monday morning. Getting packing early doesn't hurt though. Makes you a little more anxious to go, but at I'm ready when the time comes.

The amount of information we went was massive! The notes alone was about a foot tall when I stacked it up a couple nights ago. I though I took a picture , but I guess not. I have one form the top-down, but it is not nearly as impressive.
